Drought Angels

Not sure what you got up to this week but here’s what was going on at A Place to Create.

After Tuesday morning’s class with Doozey Chicks Paper Crafters Group, a dozen ladies along with Marji, Deb and Sue stayed on and gave their time to make a difference in the lives of struggling farmers and their families through Drought Angels.

Drought Angels was formed in 2014 by Natasha Johnson and Nicki Blackwell, Drought Angels gives assistance to struggling farmers and families on the land who are affected by drought, bushfires and floods. Based in Chinchilla, this non-profit charity organisation gives emotional support as well as tangible assistance with food hampers and care packages to those in need. Co-founder Natasha Johnston puts Drought Angels agenda in such a beautiful way, “We don’t give charity, we give thank you’s to those who put food on our tables and clothes on our backs.”

What a better way than to say “thank you” to the women on the land than with an unexpected piece of jewellery, wrapped up with love, pretty papers, individual creativity, embellishments and bling! And yesterday at A Place to Create, that’s exactly what more than a dozen ladies from the Doozey Chicks Paper Crafters Group did yesterday. With exactly 100 pieces of donated jewellery to box and embellish, these beautiful ladies made boxes, boxes and more boxes each one crafted with care, with every single box being an individual masterpiece! What a beautiful way to spend Melbourne Cup Day – giving and sharing to our country sisters who are facing difficult times. A Place to Create would like to thank each and every one of you along with Marji whose initiative this was and who bought and donated every piece of jewellery herself. Thanks also to Mel, Shell, Nicki, Deb and Sue for their donations and time. The ladies also ran a raffle and raised monies, which along with all funds raised from the sale of water and soft drinks in store, helps Two Thumbs Wildlife Trust care for rescued Australian wildlife.

Well done ladies!!!!!! If you would like to donate any new pieces of jewellery, A Place to Create will serve as a collection point for next Mothers’ Day where we will again open up our classroom space for another fabulous community event.
